Overloaded or Downloaded: MAXIMIZING THE INTERNET FOR PSYCHOLOGISTS
Focusing on the use and potential of the Internet, this special presentation is part of NYSPA's first ever Presidential Mini-Convention on Effective Use of Media. Topics will include clinical use of cutting-edge technology, the ethics and practice of online mental health services, and a look at online behavior.

II. FROM BOOKS TO ONLINE VIDEO: USING NEW TOOLS AS SUPPLEMENTS TO TRADITIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
Michael Klein, Psy.D.
Dr. Klein will present a brief overview of communications tools
and technology that have been used in support of psychological treatment.
He will then address the use of the Internet as a "universalizing"
agent, and describe how video in particular is a powerful next step in its development.

III. AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGY AND INTERNET PRACTICE: WHERE DO WE STAND?
David Nickelson, Psy.D.,J.D. APA Practice Directorate
Dr. Nickelson serves as Special Assistant to the Executive Director, & Director of Technology for the American Psychological Association. He will provide a close-up look at APA's considerations and implementation of policy regarding psychology online in the 21st century.

IV. CLINICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND SOCIETAL TRENDS: INTEGRATING PSYCHOLOGY ONLINE
Michael Fenichel,Ph.D., President-Elect, International Society of Mental Health Online
Dr. Fenichel will present a brief overview of Internet use and online mental health services, followed by an illustrative Cyberspace tour. The segment will provide an introduction to clinical,dynamic, and ethical issues which are unique to online clinical practice, and a discussion of ISMHO's evolution.

V. THE CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST IN ONLINE GROUPS AND COMMUNITIES
John Suler, Ph.D., Professor, media consultant, author "Psychology of Cyberspace"
Dr. Suler will discuss the various functions a clinical or counseling psychologist may serve in online groups and communities. He will describe some basic principles to consider in facilitating the
psychological well-being of the online group and the relationships within the group. A special focus will be on the facilitation and dynamics of an online clinical case study group devoted to the discussion of psychotherapy cases involving the Internet.
