These are the dramatic cliffs of Kauai, which include the legendary Na Pali coastline, with sheer cliffs so steep that this island alone withstood the conquest of other island invaders for thousands of years. This is the view from up above - helicopter is the only way to see much of this island - and it is difficult to imagine just how steep those cliffs are. (Look at the water's wake on that tiny pristine beach.) This particular view of Kauai's coastline actually shows a much more gently sloped portion than one finds at other parts of the island, along the Na Pali coast.
