Situated at the southern end of the Island, near the old sugar plantations, taro patches and Hanapepe Valley, this town has an interesting history -- including a sugar workers' uprising in the 1920's, the heyday of Kauai's plantation era. Now an unusual remnant of the past, Hanapape is a place I had read about, described as a wooden-sidewalk town with false-front buildings. I had no idea what that meant. A picture's worth a thousand words. Feels like a far-Western ghost town, with a very rich past. :-)
