Yellow-crowned Night-Heron
Here are two different looks at a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, one in the nest, another strutting about on the ground.
Both are in the J. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island. These birds are among the rarer of herons, and more 'secretive'/shy than the Black-crowned Night Heron.
Fun fact, from Cornell Ornithology Lab : "This species shows up several times in the fossil record, and the earliest recorded fossil is 2–2.5 million years old (from Sarasota, Florida)."
