Akaka Falls
Photography by Fenichel: Big Island
Akaka Falls, in the North of Big Island, near Honomu, has been the subject of adoration and song since ancient days. Aside from the waterfalls, the easy trails also take hikers past many varieties of tropical flora.
This is the Torch Ginger, or in Hawaiian:
Awapuhi-ko'oko'o. It means 'Walking stick ginger'. These grow around 20 feet tall, make great walking sticks and are also used as a curry seasoning in Malaysia.
